HIFU is a non-invasive procedure that uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production, lift and tighten the skin, and improve facial and body contours. To ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of adverse effects, please follow the pre-treatment instructions below.
Contraindications – Who Should Not Be Treated
HIFU is generally safe but is not suitable for clients with the following:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Metal implants or electronic devices in or near the treatment area (e.g. pacemakers, cochlear implants)
- Open wounds, skin infections, or active acne in the treatment area
- Severe or cystic acne, rosacea, or eczema in the treatment area
- Uncontrolled thyroid disorders (especially in neck treatments)
- Bleeding disorders or use of anticoagulants
- Neurological disorders or epilepsy
- Active cold sores (herpes simplex) in the treatment area
- Recent facial injections or dermal fillers (within 2–4 weeks)
- History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
- Severe or uncontrolled medical conditions, including cancer or autoimmune diseases
Please notify your practitioner of any medications, recent cosmetic procedures, or changes in your health status prior to treatment.
General Preparation
- Avoid cosmetic treatments such as:
- Anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers in the treatment area for at least 2–4 weeks before
- Chemical peels, laser resurfacing, microneedling, or RF treatments for 2 weeks prior
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including fake tan) on the treatment area for at least 1 week prior to treatment.
- Discontinue use of active skincare ingredients (retinoids, AHA/BHA, vitamin C) for 3–5 days before treatment.
- Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before and after your treatment to support skin recovery and lymphatic drainage.
- Shave any dense hair in the treatment area (especially for body treatments) the night before, unless advised otherwise.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and anti-inflammatories (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) for 24 hours prior to the session, unless prescribed.
On the Day of Treatment
- Arrive with clean skin: no makeup, creams, sunscreen, or lotions on the treatment area.
- Eat a light meal before your appointment, particularly for longer sessions.
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the treatment area.
- If you are prone to cold sores, take prophylactic antiviral medication if treating around the lips (consult your GP or practitioner first).
What to Expect
- You may feel mild tingling, warmth, or prickling sensations during treatment — this is normal.
- Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness may occur and usually resolves within hours to a few days.
- Full results from HIFU may take 8–12 weeks as collagen regeneration progresses.
Important Notes
- A consultation and skin assessment is required before your first HIFU session.
- A patch test is usually not needed, but medical clearance may be required if any risk factors are identified.
- Avoid scheduling important events within a few days post-treatment in case of mild redness or swelling.
