  • History of melanoma or other skin malignancy
  • Active infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal) in the treatment area
  • Herpes simplex (cold sores) in the treatment area — pre-treatment antiviral medication may be recommended
  • Recent tanning or sunburn (including solariums or fake tan)

Skin Preparation Before Treatment

  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and fake tan for at least 2–4 weeks prior.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily and reapply regularly.
  • Stop using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, or any active skincare products in the treatment area for 5–7 days before your appointment.
  • Do not wax, pluck, or thread for 4 weeks before laser hair removal. Shaving is allowed.
  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. No lotions, perfumes, deodorant, or oils on the area.
  • Shave the area 24 hours before your session (if applicable), unless otherwise instructed.
  • If prescribed, take antiviral medication before laser treatments near the lips (to prevent cold sore outbreaks).

Medications and Health Conditions

  • Tell us if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications that may make your skin more sensitive to light.
  • Let us know if you have had any recent cosmetic treatments, such as chemical peels, microneedling, injectable fillers, or other laser procedures.
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment to minimise bruising or bleeding risk.

Additional Notes

  • A patch test may be required 24–48 hours before your first session depending on the laser type.
  • Some lasers require numbing cream — your provider will advise if this applies.
  • Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow time for paperwork or preparation.
